The Decline of Earth

A swelling population pushed Earth to her limits, and people began fighting for dwindling resources made even more scarce by the increasingly toxic environment. In a desperate attempt to save the dying planet, national governments united under a global commonwealth to build megadomes that would enclose cities and filter out pollution.

Though everybody was promised a place to live in comfort, in reality there wasn’t room. Millions were abandoned by the government, left to struggle for life in the toxic ruins of old cities. In these sprawls life reverted to primitive clans and only the fittest survived. Desperate from the severe lack of fresh water and food Sprawlers attacked supply conveys delivering rations to the domes.

The commonwealth sent armies of heavily armed forces to round up any criminals caught disrupting the dome supplies. Those deemed “dangerous and irredeemable” were sent to a rudimentary dome colony on Jupiter’s moon Io. The political success of this plan encouraged the commonwealth to create a Jovian Detention Administration to protect the domes. The JDA quickly gained power. They started by taking control of all prisoners, next they took control of supply distribution, then eventually they took over the day-to-day running of Earth.
