The TogransAround the time the JDA were taking over government, a brilliant scientist, Alpheus Togra, was gathering top scientists to create the Togran Foundation. Togra’s words inspired a new movement in science. For centuries man has viewed the universe as a series of puzzles. Within the molecule we found the atom, and within that the proton, and the quark, and the xion. And deeper we delved, finding another puzzle within every one we solved, never finding the answer we sought, but never questioning our method of searching. We have organized and compartmentalized our knowledge until it no longer serves us. Instead we serve it. We study physics and math and philosophy and religion and never realize that they are all the same. The monk and the physicist are searching for the same understanding. To truly advance human wisdom, we must learn to see the whole of things. This Foundation will strive to do just that. Though the foundation was ridiculed by many scientists and by the JDA, it soon became evident that someone was leaking their accomplishments to the government. Togra sequestered himself, worried that the JDA would use his work on matter conversion to cause immense harm. He worked almost entirely alone, revealing to nobody the complete details of his accomplishments. Certain that his research was about to be seized by the JDA, Togra gathered a trusted group of scientists, including some of the world’s foremost biologists, chemists, physicists and mathematicians, and convinced them to escape and create an off-world colony with him. But the escaping Tograns were attacked as they fled Earth. The JDA targeted Togra’s ship, separating him from the group. Though Togra managed to escape, his badly damaged ship crash landed on Strata-7. The Tograns searched the galaxy for their lost leader, but the only news they ever received of him was a garbled radio transmission about the ship being damaged beyond repair. Eventually they settled on the chosen planet and continued their research. |
