Dark Reign Redux

Gregor Triklin

Triklin was the youngest of four sons born into a poor family in a young colony. His mother died when he was an infant, and his father struggled to raise the children while carrying out his duties as the nuclear technician to a small cluster of planets. By his early teens Triklin found himself living on his own. His almost completely senile father was living in an institution and all of his brothers had died of radiation related illnesses.

At seventeen, Triklin joined the Imperium Galactic Fleet to pursue a better life. During basic training he quickly gained favor with his superiors by reporting soldiers that were distributing contraband to the cadets. In the academy Triklin demonstrated a talent for tactics, and was offered an instructing position on his graduation. He refused this, requesting active duty instead.

Triklin was given command of a small fleet of light warships battling smuggling in the Tundorf Nebula. Within a year, Triklin had eliminated all smuggling from the region. He took advantage of a rarely-used Imperium Law that allowed him to immediately execute anyone caught trading illegal goods, which quickly gained him a reputation as ruthless.

He rose quickly through the ranks and was a colonel at the outbreak of the Freedom Guard revolution. Many Imperium officers wanted to avoid combat, but Triklin immediately requested front line duty. He dealt the Freedom Guard crushing defeats, and his troops became known for their unflagging tenacity. “Only through absolute uniformity of purpose can victory be achieved,” Triklin told his troops. “Heroism on the battlefield is as dangerous as cowardice.”

Triklin was soon promoted to general. In this position he accused several fellow commanders of being Freedom Guard sympathizers. His allegations came at a time when the Imperium were trying to account for unexpected losses to the Freedom Guard. Without any evidence, hundreds of high ranking officials were found guilty of treason and discharged. A number were even executed.

At 32, Triklin took control of the entire armed forces. His first act was to commission a super weapon to completely wipe out the Freedom Guard.
