Since ancient times, bridges have been constructed to allow people and vehicles to cross rivers and even larger bodies of water. Bridging the GapBridges enable you to span water with a surface that permits ground units passage. They are arguably more valuable to the Freedom Guard than to the Imperium which can cross water with most of its units anyway. Imperium players facing off against the Freedom Guard may wish to make it their policy to destroy as many bridges as possible in order to hamper the Freedom Guard’s movements. (To destroy a bridge, target the bridge with the Attack command.) Bridges are constructed in sections and the sections are available in three styles: horizontal, vertical, and a center piece. Central planks are far more versitle in that they can match up with any other type of bridge but they cost 50% more than a straight horizontal or vertical bridge. Placing bridges can sometimes be a little tricky. They can only be built on water, but each bridge section must be placed butted up against solid ground or another bridge. The Construction Rig can move onto the water to build the bridge if it can reach the tile where the bridge will be constructed. Also, other units can walk onto a half-completed bridge, so you can send your combat units to the bridge to help defend it while it is under construction. Each bridge section requires only a few seconds to be built and returns the Construction Rig when completed, so you can then go on to use the Rig to build other things (such as more bridge sections). If a bridge is destroyed while ground units are standing on it, those units are instantly killed if they cannot travel over water normally. Bridges always belong to a certain team, and bridges belonging to enemy teams are automatically attacked by the computer AI. Bridges can be selected in order to view their hit point bar. It is not possible to repair a bridge, but you can sell it. |
