Construction
In most cases, the Construction Rig is consumed when it builds a structure. There are a few structures that will return the Rig after they are built (such as the Camera Tower and all Decoy buildings); in these cases, look for the Rig standing next to the structure when it is complete. To begin construction of a building, select a Rig and the Build Menu will shift to show icons for all of the structures you can presently build. Just click an icon and then click where you wish the building to be placed, and the Rig will slog over to that location and start construction. If you cannot place a building, check the footprint of the structure cursor that appears when you select the building off the menu. Any red tiles are being blocked by something (another unit, another building, or a terrain feature). Also, cliffs and slopes can prohibit building construction; you need to find a nice flat location to place the structure. Be careful when placing structures that can produce or repair units, such as the Training Facility and the Repair Station. The units that are created at the building, or that enter the building, need room to exit the structure. Otherwise they will become stuck and will pile up on the building’s bay, unable to move. Most of the time the exit is at the bottom of the building, so try to leave at least one tile of free space to the south of every structure that you place. You need enough credits in your account to cover the full cost of the building in order to begin construction. However, all of the credits are not spent immediately. Instead, the credits are spent gradually as the building is constructed. If you run out of credits during the construction process, the construction is placed on hold until you gain more credits. A building cannot be repaired while it is under construction; however, it gains hit points gradually over time, and this is frequently enough to keep it from being destroyed during construction. Once the construction is complete, any damage it sustained during the building process will remain; at this point, you can begin repairs as needed. To cancel construction of a building, use the sell cursor on it. |
