Transporting TroopsThe Phase Transport is built with the Phasing Facility’s upgrade. Point your cursor at the lower center portion of the Advanced Phasing Facility and you will see the transport there. (You can also do a box-selection across the facility to select the transport.) Fill the transport by moving units into the Phasing Facility; they will board the transport automatically. The transport can be moved around while it carries units, but as soon as it is empty, it automatically returns to the Phasing Facility and it cannot be controlled during this time. Also, you cannot put units into the Phase Transport while it is away from the Phasing Facility. You can only load it before it goes into motion. But you can place units into the Phasing Facility while the transport is away, and they will board the transport once it docks.
The Phase Transport can travel virtually anywhere because it is traveling underground. It has almost no sight range, however, which means you can barely see the tile above it. This can make it difficult to see what is around your present location when you are trying to decide where to deposit troops. On the other hand, being permanently phased, the Phase Transport is invulnerable. It is not affected by splash damage so there is next to nothing your opponent can do to it even if they could see it. As a curious aside, you can set a Phase Transport to Scout as long as it has at least one occupant. Although it does not have much of a sight range, it could in theory be used to “scrub” the map of all of the black areas. Since it is invulnerable, it cannot be harmed during this process. This is a very slow way to reveal the map, however, so it is not terribly effective. CounteringWhen an enemy is using Phase Transports against you, units will appear to simply pop into existence out of nowhere. There is not much you can do to stop the transport itself; however, it can only hold five units at a time, so that does limit the damage that can be done. Also, since the Phase Transport must return to the Phasing Facility before it can be loaded again, this slows down how quickly your opponent can use one to flood your base with units. (That is not to say, however, that someone couldn’t just build multiple Phasing Facilities.) In order to put a total stop to a Phase Transport, though, you must find and destroy the Advanced Phasing Facility that birthed it. When the facility is destroyed, the transport will go down with it, regardless of where it is on the map. |
