Transporting TroopsThe Rapid Armored Transport can ferry up to five infantry units at a fairly quick pace along normal terrain. It can cross water, though it moves very slowly over water, so it is very vulnerable there. Nevertheless, since the Freedom Guard lack the proliferation of the hover vehicles that the Imperium enjoy, the R.A.T. serves as a way to protect your infantry and speed them along their way as well as a method of injecting them into places where they could not go normally. One curious aspect to the Rapid Armored Transport is that it is camouflaged. This is not the same as being phased or cloaked; enemy units can still see the R.A.T. and will happily open fire upon it. However, enemy players might easily miss spotting the transport, and this can sometimes allow you to sneak units into a location where you would otherwise be opposed. The transport is less visible to others while holding still; it is more noticeable while moving. Keep this in mind as you maneuver around. It’s not foolproof, but may well just help. Be careful when navigating rivers and other narrow waterways. Because units try to travel the fastest route—and because Rapid Armored Transports move so slowly over water—the R.A.T. may take quite a different path than you might be expecting, potentially putting itself into the range of land-based defenses. To avoid this, you may need to use waypoints or manually guide it short distances at a time along the path you wish it to take. |
