Sabotaging

The Saboteur has no attack against units, but can target enemy buildings. Like the Scout, he can assume the appearance of rocks and trees in order to attempt to sneak past the enemy undetected.

When you target an enemy building, the Saboteur will move next to the building and work for a few seconds. If he completes his task without being interrupted, the building’s health drops immediately to half of its maximum value. Notice that this is half of its maximum value, not its current value; therefore, using a Saboteur against a building that is already at less than half health has no effect. Also, there is no point in sending more than one Saboteur to sabotage a building at a time.

Because they do not technically have a weapon, Saboteurs will not automatically sabotage buildings, even if their Independence is set to HIGH. You must give them explicit orders to sabotage a structure.

It is not possible to sabotage buildings that are presently under construction.

Saboteurs can morph, but remember that any movement seen by the enemy will alert them to the Saboteur’s presence. Therefore, morphing, by itself, might not be the best way to get your Saboteurs into a heavily-defended enemy base. A better method might be to distract the enemy with a separate attack force, and then sneak your Saboteurs in from the side while your foes are occupied.

Saboteurs can be used as part of a larger attack force to soften up buildings and make them fall more easily. You can also use Saboteurs on undefended buildings that you come across, but you will probably want to bring some other units along soon thereafter to eliminate the sabotaged structure, or else the enemy is likely to just repair it back up to full health.
