CombatAs a high-level tank, the Triple Rail Hover Tank is more than just a mouthful of words. It boosts decent defense and offense, with a fairly long range cannon that deals slight splash damage. Don’t overlook the hovering quality of this tank. This allows it to approach the enemy from creative angles if you take it over swamps or water. Look for unguarded back doors into the enemy base. And if your tank runs into trouble, try to retreat across terrain where your enemy cannot follow. Remember that hovering vehicles move full speed over swamps, whereas most units are slowed in such terrain, so retreating through a swamp can frequently throw off any pursuers. Triple Rail Hover Tanks are equal in range to Neutron Accelerators and Heavy Rail Platforms. So they cannot attack such towers head-on without inviting retaliation. However, since all units can only shoot at things in their sight range, you can sometimes take advantage of the fog of war to approach a tower from the other side of a slope or other terrain feature that hinders the tower’s sight range enough for you to get free hits in. Attacking from a diagonal direction also seems to help. Position is the key. One way to position tanks successfully is to set their Independence to MED or HIGH (and their Pursuit Range to LOW if necessary) and move them so that your desired target is just on the edge of their sight range. Then inch them forward as necessary and let them open fire automatically as soon as they are within range. This can often produce better results than directly ordering them to attack a particular target. Like most units, Triple Rail Hover Tanks cannot shoot air units. If your enemy has any air units at all, it’s helpful to escort your tanks with some Flak Jacks or other units that can defend them from airborne threats. |
